Why you should get a Kindle!

I’m pretty sure you already know what a Kindle is and might thought of buying one.

But you put that off, thinking it’s a device for the most voracious readers.

As far I can tell from my experience, a Kindle is not just an e-reader that lets me access thousands of books and read without distractions; it is also a device that adds value to my life.

If I’d ever recommended you buy something, it’s an Amazon Kindle Paperwhite

Here are some reasons why you should get a Kindle.

It massively improves your reading habits

In today’s age, where every social media app is trying to get our attention with endless feeds, stories and posts, it’s probably a better idea in the long term to read and learn something new from a book than mindless social media scrolling.

But the problem with Instagram, Facebook or any other social media is that it makes it so easy for us to scroll through these feeds while commuting or in bed. But if you have a Kindle in your bag or near the bed, you can ditch this mindless scrolling and get immersed in a good book.

The Kindle mobile app is also good, as even if the Kindle device is not beside me, I can carry on reading on my phone knowing that the app will synchronize seamlessly with my actual Kindle, so I can resume from the page where I left off.

It magically reduces the friction of getting a new book

With the Kindle, you can purchase books right from your Kindle device, smartphone or computer within seconds, removing the barriers to a new book that you’re interested in all of a sudden.

So whenever I hear a book recommendation on a Youtube video or a blog post, I search it on the Kindle Store and buy it, and start reading it instantly. Most of the time, the Kindle edition costs ridiculously cheap compared to its paperback.

It let’s you highlighting sentences

The Kindle highlights feature lets you use the touchscreen to highlight whatever text you like from the book you’re reading. For example, I usually highlight quotes or ideas that struck my mind.

The Kindle also lets you browse highlights. So when I need some inspiration, I read my favourite highlights.

Let you find word meaning easily

I recently started learning German. So I’ve added a couple of German short stories to my Kindle. While reading these stories, I found out that the Kindle let me find meanings of the words I’m yet to familiarize with the inbuilt dictionary.

It works super simple. Just long-press the word and the dictionary provides the meaning. So no need for Googling. The dictionary is a life-saving feature that I’m sure will help learners and readers.

But yeah, the Kindle may not give you that savouring experience of holding a physical book or gives out that tantalizing aroma from the pages. But the benefits you’ll get from a Kindle will surely outweigh the tradeoffs in the long run.

Just go out and buy your new Kindle! 😃
